CPSC: Little Tricky bike helmet recall for head injury risk

This blog has discussed a number of issues surrounding motorcycle and bicycle safety. Over the years, an ever growing number of parents recognize the benefit of providing their children with proper safety gear when riding bicycles. Bicycle accidents cause far too many injuries among our youth. Now the Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of more than 30,000 bicycle helmets after tests showed that the helmets pose a safety risk.

The helmets at issue were put on the market by Triple Eight Distribution. The CPSC says the helmets, known on the market as Little Tricky bicycle helmets for kids, fail to meet safety standards and pose a risk for head trauma and brain injury in a bike accident. The helmets are considered multipurpose helmets, but are also sold for use as bicycle helmets for children and teens in the United States.

Injured motorcycle accident victim prevails before California jury

A California jury has awarded a California motorcyclist a significant award in relation to a 2007 accident that left the biker with serious groin injuries. The motorcyclist at the time of the motorcycle accident served as a noncommissioned officer in the Navy on active duty in San Diego. The man was riding his Harley-Davidson to work on Aug. 30, 2007, when a shuttle van from a San Diego automobile company cut him off in traffic, according to the lawsuit.

The van reportedly made a left turn in front of the Harley without checking for traffic. The Navy officer on his Harley and the van collided, launching the rider forward onto the bike's handlebars. The 23-year-old rider suffered a fracture of his pubic ramus bone. He also suffered nerve and artery damage and a crushing injury in his groin, according to the lawsuit.

City looks to improve saftey at Fell/Masonic intersection

The woman was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle when the bike went down in a single-vehicle crash. The woman sustained numerous permanent and disabling head and neck injuries in the California motorcycle accident.

She and the driver each sued the county where the accident occurred alleging that the county was responsible for the motorcycle crash for failing to properly maintain the road.
